Eddie Freeman, former star running back at Crescent City High in North Carolina, finds himself in Baltimore wondering how he got there. In Baltimore, Eddie is befriended by another North Carolinian, seventy-five year old Noah Sullivan, Noahas friend Marlene Dorne and her beautiful eighteen year old daughter Ramona. Ramona, severely retarded since birth, sketches and draws like a master. As weeks pass, Eddieas amnesia subsides. He wants to stay and help Noah take care of Marlene and Ramona, but knows he must return home to face whatever he ran away from. Leaving Baltimore with a dangerously high fever in an old Ford LTD Noah bought him, Eddie remembers getting to Baltimore but not his last night at home or why he ran. Eddieas girlfriend, Pam Carroll, and her two children were murdered on Eddieas last night in Crescent City. Who killed them? When he arrives in Crescent City, deathly ill, Eddieas gruesome memories unfold.
