Matthew and Victoria had no choice but to leave their homes and flee into the depths of the untamed wilderness of the Black Hills. Horatio, Matthewas eldest brother, threatened to steal his fiancee and keep the land and cattle promised to him upon their fatheras death. Wanting to join the two biggest ranches in the territory would make Horatio a wealthy man. Matthew spent his meager savings on traps and a few supplies, and headed deep into the Lakota territory at the foot of the great Teton Mountains. Although there were few who were better with a gun than Matt, he knew nothing about trapping and mining for gold. Matt was a fast learner and with the help of old Jeb and the fierce Lakota brave he had befriended, he soon became adept to the ways of the mountain man.
