This book provides a new angle for readers to approach what is real genius. They are different because they spend thousands of hours in deep practice—imitating, failing, learning, and persisting, rather than they are born endowed with skills and talent. Most common people cannot see that difference because we just lack the qualities, or be more precise, we haven’t got the characteristics. Enduring ten years of persistence in thinking deeply or tolerating to gain improvement is not what everybody can complete.
The role of ignition in creating a talent may have been recognized widely. We have heard stories like someone out there mocked by an idiot so that he determined to prove the legitimacy of his own deeds, or a young guy looked by this teacher as weak in intelligence so that his mother takes him home to train him combined with love. Of course, after a person become successful, such stories begin spreading, real or not. What we usually oversee is the passion behind such kind of success. Those so-called genius can spend years in doing the same work, neglecting the changes outside and even forget how to live a normal life, can we do that? We may have short-lived passion, but to accomplish a real triumph requires steadfast passion which is usually called belief or faith.
A good coach will accelerate the process of ascending to success, but what if we don’t have a good coach. In human world, one cannot live all by himself, while in the world of talent one cannot succeed all by himself. Thus we will need a mentor, a coach, or a teacher. A teacher is limited to someone who teaches us something, but he can be someone we learn something from. Human beings are the species most good at imitating. Find someone is awesome, see him as an ignition to your success and then stay in deep practice. If the fate give no good mentor to us, we simply stole from others.
