This book is one man's journey into madness from the close of WWII to the late 1960s. It is woven into a tapestry of terror with each chapter building upon the previous to its ultimate satisfying conclusion. The reader is introduced to David Grainger, a small-town boy sent to the battlefields of France, where he is transformed after witnessing the horror of war and exploited by a mysterious governmental organization. David is continually haunted by the ghost of a young girl who he tries to save at the end of the war. The reader learns over the course of the book that the young girl plays a pivotal role in David's life. There are many characters throughout the book that David comes across-some good and others questionable. Mystery fills each chapter, as well as an abundance of action and romance. David is a complex person, as are all of the central characters of the book.
