If a book is both gripping and thought-provoking,then i think it's a good book even though it is a best-seller.The Kite Runner is such a book, while it kept my eyes glued to the pages,it also made me think about my life, mostly, the my living circumstances. They say that only people who have suffered real losses can cherish evey single thing they possess.can truly understand the value of having a life.Maybe it is just because the author Khaled Hosseini did experience the wars and deaths in Afghanistan,he could tell his story--a heartbreaking story so genuinely and sincerely. At some point,i can feel the hopelessness and fear pervading the air of Afghanistan, and that reminded me of the happiness i've been ignoring.Family, education, safety and peace.......all the things i've taken for granted.
Closing the book,i pictured in my mind a Chinese-doll-faced boy, dressed in ragged shirts, possessd the most beautiful smile and the most loyal and steadiest gaze.He is the kite runner---Hassan.Through the reading process,i could not help shedding tears for this pure, kind and simple boy.He was always willing to give but never demanded anything from others. If there was anything he really wanted, then it is Amir's friendship, his half-brother who he rescued and protected for life.Life is never fair, the world is never fair.Amir is the social-approved,legal son,but Hassan is the vulgar Hazara bastard.Amir could inherit the riches and gain his father's love aboveboard, but Hassan was always considered the servant, the low-bred Hazara.Amir could accompany his father to America to start a new life when war came ,but Hassan had to die under the oppression of Talibans. The wisdom of Hosseini's writing is that he created two characters so true,he portrayed the details so exquisitely that people would rather believe the story is an autobiography of himself.
The brightest hope that the author left for us is the kid Sohrab, his very existence stands for many things:redemption, salvation, hope and forgiveness. At the end of the novel,i came across something like this:"Because when spring comes,it melts the snow one flake at a time, and maybe i just witnessed the first flake melting."It deeply touched me,because as the writer wishes,i see hope!
