I have decided that I write book reviews in English when I read original English books. Here is the first one, and I hope it won't be the worst one.
The book I've read in January --- also my first book reading in 2013 --- was <How to write a lot>. It's simple and short but truely useful. Now I am practising the rules taught in the book when I am writing this review. "Writing a lot" inspired me so much that writing works occupy most of the time in my daily works. However, I felt time is so limited for writing. I always wrote in the last minute with worries and great pressure. How can I not only accomplish my writing works but also keep writing a lot in both native and second language with a topic that is interested and not interested me? I am sure now, after I finished this book, I can solve the most critical writing problems without anxiety.
As most of the self-improvement books, there are simple rules to follow. The simplest but most useful rule in this book is summarized as "set a regular time to write in the weekly schedule". It had better write four hours a week in the beginning and adjust the time length when you get used to it. During the writing time, one should focus only on the writing and follow the steps of setting goals, setting writing priorities and controlling processes.
Of course, there are also tips for how to write good academic papers. The author pointed out some specific errors or bad habits such as using complex words and long sentences to confuse the audience. And he provided tips as writing parrallel sentences, using semicolon etc. and a total overview on the structures and contents of journal articles.
This is a small but lovely book. Easy writing to read, easy rules to follow. What we lack of always is not the ablitity to write but the determination to insist.
A very practical academic writing guide

APA出版的这本《how to write a lot -- a practical guide to productive academic writing》是我读过对我帮助最大的学术写作指导书。
