When Sparky the Dalmatian puppy is brought home from the neighborhood pet store, he is delighted. His new home is a fun and wonderful place, and his new family is caring and warm. Everything changes overnight, however, when a terrible fire destroys Sparky's home and makes him flee into the darkness of a nearby alley. Forced to live the next few years on the streets, scavenging for food and water, Sparky does his best to avoid nasty bulldogs, ferocious Dobermans, and the greatest danger of all-the dreaded dog catchers. Not willing to succumb to his fate as a lowly street dog, Sparky joins the local fire station in an attempt to make something of his life. Will Sparky's fear of fire and his tragic past force him to quit his new job as a firehouse dog, or will he overcome his fears and become the town's biggest hero? A touching tale that is sure to delight children of all ages and teach them that no matter how terrible things get, if they keep trying and refuse to give up, their greatest prayers will indeed be answered.
