Taylor is devastated. She either passes the final Civil War history exam or ends up in summer school. While studying, Taylor falls asleep. She dreams that she is living during the Civil War. She, her mother and grandmother flee their plantation home in a covered wagon accompanied by two of their slaves. They encounter Union soldiers, Confederate soldiers, deserters, river crossings, a gunboat, and a bad storm. They eventually arrive in Texas with two orphaned children. When Taylor wakes up, she finds that the dream has aroused her curiosity. She researches her history book, her notes, and the Atlas. She wishes to research many details of the dream: where she was living, the rivers she crossed, and where she ended up. A new Civil War history buff is born, but willTaylor ace her history test?
