Everything is going great for 18-year-old Brian Kitzmiller, who is assigned to a non-combat unit in 1967 Vietnam. His responsibilities include being the outfitas mail clerk, and he soon becomes a welcome face to everyone. He carries a picture, which he has enlarged then placed above his bunk, of a girl from his hometown whom he really does not know but passes off as his girlfriend. As time goes on, the gorgeous girl becomes the most famous lady in the whole unit and the juicy stories abound. Brian does nothing to stifle this ever-growing myth. In fact, he enjoys his alegendarya status as he has never known anything but loneliness and obscurity back home. The lid blows off when a cruel skeptic from the same town arrives and Brianas life unravels. Wracked by relentless humiliation and scorn, his decisions from that point become reckless.
