Megan March lives in a future world in which all information from the past is lost. Books are rare finds and the power source called electricity is only a mythabut Megan believes differently. In her explorations, she has seen machines that at one time must have done amazing things and scraps of books that hint at the possibility. There are other things she has questions about; like who used to live in the overgrown abandoned cities? Did the world really used to be open to the universe so that one could see the sun and moon instead of just the silhouette through the metallic ectosphere that she knows? If so, what had caused such a change? Megan discovers a battered series of journals written during the lost time that uncover a twenty-year period of answers and give Megan more knowledge than she may be able to cope with.
