Father Mark Kronen, a priest, a teacher, a philosopher, and a heretic? So says vengeful parishioner George Melski who brings charges against the controversial Fr. Kronen. Loved by many and feared by a few, Kronen is forced to stand trial. His defense attorney is a former priest and skillful Canon lawyer, Bill Collier. Together Kronen and Collier confront Monsignor Patrick Allen, the prosecutor representing the Church and systematic theology. During the course of the trial, an interesting bond is woven between prosecutor and defendant as Kronen fearlessly reaches out to Allen. Collier and Allen exchange speeches as each progress to the final testimony. Archbishop Wagner risks his own standing by offering the pivotal testimony, which dangerously reveals his own position and threatens to divide his Diocese. In the end, the three judges come to a difficult decision, which results in the loss of one of the priests.
