In the spring of 2005, Duke Reed finds himself contemplating an unclear purpose to a mediocre life and in the process, inadvertently acquires a new companion. Bart and Duke have settled into a satisfying ritual in which Duke shares his favorite childhood stories at a special hiding spot. While starting a subconscious journey to find and understand his own worth, Duke reluctantly takes an interest in this relatively slow, yet pure adolescent. But, just as the camaraderie between seasoned adult and simple youth builds a binding thread, a third party spoils an innocent plan and adds the need for secrecy and deceit. Waves of wit, down-to-earth realism, and a semi-omniscient narrator lead us through comedy, romance, and mystical doubts of awho is really whoa in this touching tale of a man and boy who find themselves as a result of finding each other.
