What Moe Thinks is a culmination of the life experiences of Morell Jones II. Morell has spent his existence soaking up all that he could to feed his creative passions. Through his involvement in the many disciplines that UCLA had to offer, he became fascinated with people such as Malcolm X, Langston Hughes, Leopold Senghor, Paul Robeson, and W.E.B. Dubois-men who were not only charismatic leaders, but master wordsmiths, as well. Morell truly believes that the pen will always be mightier than the sword. Since graduating from UCLA, Morell has become a husband, father, and educator; each task feeding off of the other and each allowing him to grow each day. Morell utilizes these facets of his life, as well as his past experiences and upbringing, to mold his work. He tries to encompass the feelings of the masses in his poetry and essays, showing that we all have a stake in this world, and everyone is responsible for its well-being.
