The victim is identified as Joseph Suarez, whose brother Paul is a Bishop in the Catholic Archdiocese of Manhattan. Meeting in a church owned apartment in Manhattan, they quarrel when Joseph tries to use his knowledge of the conversion of the Suarez family from Judaism to Catholicism during the Spanish Inquisition in 1492 in an effort to coerce Paul into helping him get out of an unhappy marriage. Paul refuses, and during the bitter quarrel it is he who aaccidentallya goes out the window. Joseph then tries to solve all his problems by abecominga Paul, but finds that replacing an identical twin presents insurmountable problems.
