This is firstly a collection of twenty-four poems that provides a light-hearted read, offering snippets of wisdom on the human condition. It is about Alf and Mabel and events in the life of this long-married couple living in Yorkshire, England, which capture some of the quirks of old age and coupledom from the amusing to the touching. Alf's dislike of Christmas shopping, his insistence that a Spanish holiday he was "persuaded" to go on was his idea in the first place, and the rather moving memories of "Wedding Anniversary" are events shared, to name but a few. The second collection is a varied selection of humorous poems including an "Aging Hippy Grandma " "A Mermaid," who yearned for a husband, "Miss Matilda Middleton," a spinster who fell in love with her vicar, "A Frog" who ate too many flies for breakfast, and many more. These poems are fun and more importantly, touching little slices of life in a poetic form.
