The lives of Marceline and Kevin Kallinski changed forever in May 1955 when their parents' involvement with the mob forced them into hiding. With assumed identities the children fled toward an uncertain future. Assuming the role of mother to her brother, they settle in a small town where Marceline, now Marcie, meets young Jeff Martin, a newcomer at the factory where she has taken a job. On a beautiful, sun-filled day, while picnicking in a local park, Marcie's thoughts are clouded with worries that her tranquil life in hiding can't last. Returning home, Marcie picks up her mail. Inside is an old newspaper containing a horrible reminder. Marcie knows that the past is quickly catching up. Will it overtake her and Kevin? Questions rise about a missing briefcase and Marcie finds she isn't the only one thinking about the past.
