As Ruthie Franzman wanders through the dilapidated childhood home of her grandmother, she is suddenly transported back to 1908 and into her grandmotheras body. Now in the horse and buggy era and without knowledge of how to return to her own time, she assumes her grandmotheras life, living as Barbara, with her great-grandparents. As she adapts to their old-fashioned lifestyle as one of their thirteen children, she meets a young man who wishes to court heraher own grandfather, George. She also learns Barbara has another suitor, a handsome Scotsman named Caleb McKenzie, who wants to marry her. Aware that her grandmother eventually marries George, her own heart leans towards Caleb. Torn between her love for each man, she must quickly unravel the spell to return to her own time, before being married to her own grandfather.
