Summer at the beach is supposed to be a good thing (parties, friends, a romantic tryst or twoa]). Leave it to Carl Fellows to make it seem like hell on earth Perhaps Timothy's Take-Out is distorting his perceptions. This zoo of a fast food restaurant is, in no particular order, his summer job, his baptism of fire, and the vehicle through which he is introduced to the world. Our young anti-hero winds up spending three years there, during which time obnoxious patrons and irresponsible fellow employees drive him to the brink of madness. The relentless abuse eventually makes a hermit out of him, but not before he and his cronies erupt in a final, memorable burst of cartoon-like violence. Timothy's Take-Out is a comparative rarity among book-length works of fiction, in that it remains a compelling, engaging read the whole way through. A perfect gift for the malcontent in your life
