Saved by the professor, they join forces with him. They escape The Family by flying into space. While in space, they befriend some aliens, who return the favor when they accidentally crash land on the aliensa home planet of Sharbec. Khagun encounters a strange forest creature that terrorizes the people. He becomes a hero when he kills it. The priesthood and the people recognize Khagun as the messenger from Valda, mentioned in their prophecies when he kills the Sartr and his crew cures a malady for which they have no cure. They reshape the civilization and rebuild much of the city. Brute captures and trains some Sarnettes to follow commands and teaches the Sharbecians how to use their services.
