This is a story of love doomed to failure by unfavorable conditions in the USSR, spanning the mid-1940s to 1970s. Vilen is a conformist who obeys every existing law, bylaw, rule, and tradition instilled in Soviet youths by the state propaganda machine, and by fearful parents, teachers, etc. Felix is one of not many remarkable exceptions. Ever since childhood till the end of his days he was a conspicuous nonconformist, insuppressible rebel, conscious renegade, unbending apostate. He challenges every precept and tradition, breaks each dictated pattern of behavior, particularly in the realm of lovea]. Felix and his wife emigrate to Israel and later Vilen and his family resettle in USA. When Felix visits his friend, he gives him a manuscript.
