Cheryl Jenkins, professor of history and folklore at the University of Kansas, plans on spending her summer researching the history behind Kansas ghost stories for an academic book. Her sister, Beth, agrees to accompany her on the first stop to Atchison, Kansas, purported to be one of the most haunted places in America. They find a large, historic home to rent and soon find out it is supposedly haunted. Nonbelievers, the sisters set out to debunk the notion even though strange things begin to occur. And while on a haunted tour they meet a paranormal researcher, Bernie, who is in town with a television channel filming ghost stories. Teaming up with Bernie, they attempt to find logical explanations for what they and others see and hear. But when they encounter the ghost of Mollyas Hollow, they decide there is more to the tales and are determined to learn the truth.
