Is someone trying to kill Mrs. Beam again? That plump, kind-hearted busybody from the aLiberry Buildinga is vacationing in California and disaster seems to have followed her. Is she a jinx? Her friend, Glad, who has accompanied her, doesnat think so. Perhaps these dire occurrences are merely unfortunate coincidences, but Mrs. Beam begins to worry. Twice, they are nearly struck down by a speeding car. Glad is pushed off Skaggas Wharf into the ocean on a dark night and the two women report it to Police Lieutenant Cannon. He attributes it to horseplay, nerves following an earthquake and to general female failings. A petas death, a gunshot while the pair are on the beach and the untimely demise of a young maid in the hotel change worry to panic. Unable to convince the local police that they are in danger, they tell their troubles to the county sheriff who is sympathetic but unconvinced. With innocent bystanders falling, will Mrs. Beam and Glad survive their holiday?
