Mariah is a young mother in search of enlightenment when she meets Reverend Blake, the only inhabitant of a castle-church. In a modern day style of Beauty and the Beast, Reverend Blake insists that God wants a marriage; Mariah insists that God sent her to help him restore the castle and uplift an economically distressed community in Brooklyn. Mariah is vivacious, youthful, passionate, rebellious and in the spring of her life. The old Reverend is in the dead, gloomy winter of his life and is slow, sickly, on medication, delusional and with dysfunctional parts alike the castle which is slowly falling apart despite its majestic exterior. The book chronicles the decline of the old Reverend and emphasizes the training of Mariah, his successor. Martha Stilbirth takes center stage as she rises as the arch enemy of Mariah later in the book. Cynthia joins forces with Martha to take down Mariah in the dirtiest, most underhanded, low-down church fight of the century. The winner gets the castle.
