翻译和编辑成了这本有趣的书的最大遗憾

据china-pub上的seanxu说，这本大陆版本引进的是台湾O'reilly翻译的版本，对书中大陆不常用的词汇进行了相应的转换。

版权页上写的是洪慧芳译，庄惠淳编。那么洪慧芳应该是台湾译者，庄惠淳应该是做转换的。

1）第31页有这样一句翻译，原文是： Its window was filled with an image of a floppy disc, over which the files were represented as draggable tabs.

译文是：窗口里有张形如软式磁盘的图案，底下的档案则形同可拖曳的标签。图见这里。

不知道台式翻译是不是把floppy disc译作软式磁盘的。档案一词没有做转换，转换为文件。

而且，从图上看，怎么也不是“底下的”档案。

2）另外，Rich Page在第29页、第67页译为里奇·佩奇并配有英文，在第31页、第68页译为里奇·佩吉没有英文。可能是转换者不认真。

3）Collette Askeland在第23页译为科伦·阿斯凯兰德，在第37页译为科利特·阿斯凯兰德，都有英文；在第39页译为柯能·阿斯柯兰德，没有英文。

4）再另外，第30页第3行，86000版麦金托什应为68000版麦金托什。

5）第35页倒数第8行，西岸计算机展应为西海岸计算机展。

6）42页倒数第2行，"RoundRects"一词在需要换行时这样断"Round-Rects"比"Roun-dRects"要合适。

7）第49页倒数第2段，原文是： It did everything in software, which was more flexible anyway, during the vertical blanking interval to eliminate the possibility of flicker.

译文：我们全是用软件在垂直空白时距间绘制，……

用翻译工具，"vertical blanking interval"会被翻译成“垂直消隐期”。

到了第238页，vertical blanking interrupt handler被翻译成换帧中断（VBI）。

8）第51页最后1段，原文是：Since the game was written in BASIC, you could list it out and see how it was written.

译文：……，所以我们能够摊开观看程序的写法。

摊开，很别扭。

9）第52页，“桌面装饰”一篇，没有注明时间，而原文是有时间的，1981年10月。

10）第53页最后1段，原文是：I realized that you could write a little bit of standard glue code in assembly language to do the dirty work,

译文：我发现可以在汇编语言里写一些制式的粘合代码……

我不知道glue code怎么翻译，但是制式应该是台式用词，没有转换。

11）第55页，第1行，原文是：The Macintosh's character encoding scheme allocated the upper half of the 8-bit character set to occasionally useful but obscure characters that were not portrayed on the keys,

译文：把八位字符组的上半部分……

12）还是第55也，倒数第2行，原文是：and filled it with the standard 50% gray pattern,

译文：并填入制式的50%灰阶图案。

13）第56页，第2段，原文是：To print out your sources, you had to write them to an Apple II disk, run a program to swap the bytes or do some other manipulation,

译文：要打印数据必须……，执行程序转换位或做些其他的动作，

我也不知道该怎么翻译。

14）第57页，第3段，原文是：accessing memory blocks indirectly through "handles",

译文：通过所谓的“代号”（handle）来间接存取这些区块，

台版是译作“代号”吗？

15）第58页，第1行，原文是：The memory manager source lacked comments,

译文：那份内存管理程序代码没有批注，

批注应是注释。

16）还是第58页，第9行，原文是：Since the beginning of each name had to include the type,

译文：如果每个名称的开头都要含种类的话，

种类换作类型更好。

17）还是第58页，倒数第4行，还是批注应为注释。

18）第61页，第1段，原文是：Some of the managers decided that it would be a good idea to track the progress of each individual engineer in terms of the amount of code that they wrote from week to week.

译文：有些经理人决定以测试每周编写的程序量，来追踪每位工程师的进度，

这里“测试”干脆去掉更好些。

19）第63页，第1段，原文是：I made the software that displayed the menus look at a special low memory location called the "MrMacHook", for an address of a routine. If the routine is present, it's called with parameters that let it draw in the menu box,

译文：……，这个程序启动时，会调用参数在菜单方框中绘图，……

不是这个程序调用参数，而是it is called with param.

20）第64页，第2段，两次出现“蒂法尼”（Tiffany），而译注7里却一直译为“蒂凡尼”。

21）第70页，Wayne Rosing在标题上被译为“罗金”，在该页最后1行和第130页里译为“罗辛”。

22）还是第70页，原文是：The icons used a mask bitmap to define their borders, so irregular shapes could be rendered seamlessly on the gray desktop.

译文：图像能以位图屏蔽修饰图像外围，……

这一句太别扭了，翻译工具把mask bitmap翻译为“掩码位图”。

23）同样一个学校，第59页出现“伯克莱”，第76页出现的是“伯克利”。

24）第83页，倒数两行，我没有找到原文，但是“变动字符集（variable-width character）”和“调和文字”，前者太不专业，后者不知所云。

25）第87页，倒数第8行，“我们想采用类似现在用户界面的窗口于拖曳方式”，找不到原文。

26）第93页，第3段，原文是：The region data structure was a variable-sized list of what Bill called "inversion points", the coordinate values where black changed to white or vice versa. Since most regions were mostly rectangular, there weren't many inversion points, so regions were quite compact. But occasionally, there were lots of inversions, like in a circle, so regions grew as necessary.

译文让我看不下去了：区域的数据结构是依比尔所谓的“临界转换点”变量决定其大小的。所谓“临界转换点”就是某些坐标值刚好由黑翻白，或由白翻黑的转折点。由于大多数的区域都是矩形的，并没有太多的临界转换点，所以通常区域面积不大，但有时候有些图形有许多转折点，例如圆形，那区域也就会跟着变大。

27）Bob Belleville在第95页、第66页译为鲍勃·贝勒维尔，第xiii页译为鲍勃·贝尔维尔。

28）Larry Tesler这个名字，记得一直是译为拉里·特斯勒，譬如在第94页，但是在第102页和第130页里却译为拉里·泰斯勒。懒得去找94页之前出现处了。

29）第102页，原文是：When the software required confirmation from the user, it displayed a small window called a "dialog box", that contained a question, and presented two buttons, for positive or negative confirmation.

译文：当软件须用户确认时，会……，里头有个对问题与回答确认或否定的按钮，一个标示……

这个句子并不复杂，但是翻译得很复杂，应该是有两个按钮，不是一个。

30）在第106页第7行有一次看到“代号”时，我就知道，又是"handle"，查了原文，没错，就是。

31）第122页，Mike Moritz这个人的名字，被翻译成两个版本，迈克（6行，10行，14行，17行），麦克（11行，19行，20行）。

32）第133页，把Steve Wozniak简略翻译成史蒂夫·涅克了。

33）第133页之前，印象中是把Rod Holt翻译成罗德·霍尔特的（不记得是否有霍尔德了），在第134页和第152页，出现了罗德·浩特。第153页变成了罗·霍尔特。

34）第144页图题应该是：乔布斯，约翰·斯卡利与沃兹…

35）第156页，原文是：We anticipated that someone might try a similar trick with the Macintosh someday. If they were clever enough (which Franklin wasn't), they could disguise the code (say by systematically permuting some registers) so it wouldn't look that similar at the binary level.

译文把the binary level译为让编译程序看起来没那么像，不大准确。

36）第158页，原文是：Steve Jasik was the author of the MacNosy disassembler/debugger,

译文把disassembler/debugger译为反组译/除错器，可能反汇编/调试器更好些。

37）第167页，原文是：The lasso allowed an arbitrary area of pixels to be selected, so it required a third offscreen buffer the size of the document window, that contained a mask to indicate which pixels were part of the selection. The mask buffer allowed fast graphical operations on large, irregular areas, such as dragging an image around the screen, or making the lasso selection shimmer with the marching ants effect. The first two offscreen buffers were allocated statically, but the mask buffer needed to be deallocated when it wasn't being used, so its memory could be used for other purposes.

首先，该页第4行的离屏缓冲区和屏蔽缓冲体不一致。其次，屏蔽缓冲体不使用时则须停止工作该为释放更好些。其次a third offscreen buffer the size of the document window译为第三个如文件般大小的离屏缓冲区不大准确。再次，我们看看contained a mask to indicate which pixels were part of the selection（译文：内含屏蔽显示选取的像素）是什么意思，我不知道这里mask是不是应作掩码的意思。最后，第4行应该是该段结束，需加一个空行。

38）第170页，第2段，以Rejettes着称应该是以Rejettes著称。

39）第181页，原文是：we'd often push parameters on the stack out of order,

译文：我们常将堆积的参数顺序弄乱，

是堆栈，压进堆栈的参数。

40）第184页和第185页里的比尔·盖茨没加点，写成比尔盖茨。

41）第196页，又把堆栈译成了堆积。

42）第199页，译注2把波普艺术大师写成了普普艺术大师。

43）从第198页到200页，人名简直乱套了。先是麦克·莫雷，在199和200页又变成了米克·莫雷，和米克。而一直写作米克·贾格尔的，在199页变成了麦克（贾格尔）。

44）第231页，原文是：It's a DOS utility program that keeps multiple applications resident in memory, and allows you to switch between them quickly.

译文很糟糕：这是让多样应用程序存续在内存中的DOS功能程序。

45）第238页到第245页，多处把interpreter译为直译器，可能更合适的是解释器。第246页的intra-segment memory manger译为节区间内存管理器。relocatable memory block译为可复位内存区块有一点点勉强。第248页的supervisor mode译为监督模式，不知道是不是管理员模式更好。

46）第255页，原文是：The only upcoming new product was the LaserWriter printer, based on Canon's 300 dots/inch laser printing engine, with a digital board designed by Burrell Smith and software written by Adobe, a new company founded by Xerox alumni John Warnock and Chuck Geschke.

译文乱七八糟：唯一一项即将推出的产品是以Canon 300 DPI激光打印引擎为核心，搭配伯勒尔设计的数字电路板及Adobe由施乐人约翰·沃诺克与查克·格施克新成立的公司软件所开发的LaserWriter打印机。

47）第257页，全书一直说库伯提诺，这里变成了库伯·提诺。

真不敢相信这本书是周筠责编。
