Reading is not hard, but encountering a book depends on luck.
Although this book gave me few affections or thoughts, I still appreciate the opportunity to encounter this author.
My friend once suggested this book to me, however, as most people did, I totally forgot her words and had no intentions to find this book anywhere.
Surprisingly, she brought this book to me when we met in the airport and headed for Vietnam for our internship. That's why I cherished this chance and read it at once
She is the type of person who was deeply touched by this novel and cried every time she read it. Certainly, not everybody cries when he/she reads it and no matter how successful the author is, he could only touch those readers who resemble him in temperament or who have similar experience.
It is a pity that I am not the right person to read this book or write the review for it. Perhaps, one wants to find something interesting himself rather than depending on others. However, he did remind me of something on my childhood and friendship.
I have only one life-long friend who is now in Japan. We and also our families have known each other for over fourteen years now.
We were in the same class for both primary and junior high school.
After that, we could just meet each other once or twice a year. But it was only after we separated then I realize how I cherished him as my best friend and also our relationship deepened.
These words mean nothing to you, but a lot to me. As well as the first half of this story, you have to give the reader a general idea about how the friendship starts, which must be trivial and somehow insipid.
Friendship, especially during childhood, usually embodies guilt and followed by atonement. This could be part of the reason why we could sacrifice for our friends without asking for rewards.
The concept of self has brought us so many pleasures, as well as pains and sufferings. Too many times, we view our friendship in terms of our own perspectives. We have formed an incorrigible habit--we assume others feel and think in the same way as we do.
Giving is rewarding and contributes to our happiness. I am willing to do something for my friend, not because he has done something for me in the past, nor I look for returns in the future. Simply, I want to help my friend since I cherish this opportunity to understand him/her and also been understood in my life.
I have always been the perfect model for my best friend's parents. There's no wonder that my friend envied and might even hate me. But he never mentioned this to me. I wasn't so nice to him back in my senior high school and also I refused to give him help when he needed it while I had the capacity. After leaving home, I realized how important he is and I felt guilty for not treating him well. Hence the friendship changed, I'd rather call him "brother" since we have so many memories to share.
Be grateful to your friends, since they do not have to do something for you.
Good friendship can only be built upon mutual trust and shared past. There is no certain thing in this world--family, marriage, not to mention friendship, among all things in life, human relationship is probably the most difficult and confused one to handle. But do follow your truest and genuine feelings and instincts, and stay firmly on your own belief.
A fair story on friendship and atonement
