前三章有大量关于书总体结构的重复信息，但是没有足够的例子展开说明。关于古代书写系统的发展，书中也有一些小的错误。做为相关研究的从业者，本书的深度令人失望；对没有任何相关背景的读者来说这也恐怕不会是一本非常简明的入门书。
