We are forced to learn so much about the filthy dirtiness and darkness of human beings and of the social reality, while subconsciously being drawn to the vehement, exceptional beauty of love. It strips us of our skin and flesh, finding its way to penetrate into our blood, to become part of our lust.

Giovanni creates is a male homosexual space for David - a desperate, messy but attractive room. David indulges himself in this homo space, denying his enjoyment. He tries to leave this space and goes back to the heterosexual world where he feels safe. However, Giovanni's death traps him and he finally succumbs himself to the homo space.

I don't like the story. It's superficial. Love is not love without commitment, sacrifice, compromise. Passion is far away from love.

Paris as the paradise of sin and sensuality, under Baldwin's pen, has come to resemble the perpetual complexity of the human psyche that beleaguers people who inhabit it, built upon lies, lust, sorrow and painful search for self-revelation. The words are simple, yet so determined to tell us a troubling truth: love brings melancholy and guilt.
