The Fenced Community is a peaceful and prosperous African town with a way of life based strictly on tradition. At the Tomato Blowers Contest, one of the series of celebrations, breaches of obligation are committed. Confusion arises at the trial over the rules to apply for the execution of justice. The inhabitants resolve to adopt an earlier suggestion put forward by Kwadwo Adepa, an intelligent young boy, for the consolidation of the recollection of their traditional concepts into one comprehensive document for easy reference. With the odds against him, Nana Ayenzu, the traditional ruler and principal opponent, decides to move with the crowd. The humor arising out of their human frailties as they pursue their daily activities can be entertaining, but the social cohesion, graceful dances, the elegant dresses, the memorable festivals alongside the rich metaphorical language make the satire a worthy introduction to African traditions.
