Volume 20 of the Morland DynastyIn 1851 the fortunes of the Morland family are more buoyant than they have been for years. Morland Place is recovering under Benedict's steady hands and Charlotte, now the Duchess of Southport, is going to give birth to her second child; Cavendish Morland's engagement to the ethereally beautiful Miss Phipps causes a stir in the drawing rooms of Mayfair and his wedding causes the family some misgivings. However, the storms in Europe spill into Britain as the Crimean War begins and Cavendish is caught up in the disastrous Charge of the Light brigade. Charlotte is also caught in the bitter aftermath of a brutal war.
